What A Cowgirl Means To Me

I’m a third-generation rancher. My papa Ron started it, my dad followed and now there’s me. I want to carry on the family business. As a girl sometimes I get inside my own head. Am I good enough? Am I strong enough? Am I capable? The answer is yes, yes, and yes. I may not be a cowboy, but I have strengths of my own. I have to continuously remind myself that God made me for a purpose, and he has a plan for me that is greater than anything I could dream up on my own. I am a cowgirl.

What does a cowgirl mean to me? A cowgirl means mental toughness. Even though she may not have the strength as a cowboy, she’ll figure out a way to get the job done and she won’t stop trying until she gets there. A cowgirl is free, and she doesn’t let the weight of the world hold her back. She loves adventure and the outdoors, and she’ll stop at nothing to pursue her God given dreams. A cowgirl knows what she’s capable of and doesn’t let anyone tell her she is less than or not good enough. She’s not afraid of hard work and to get her hands dirty, but she’s also feminine. She’s tenderhearted and she loves tending to the things God has blessed her with. That’s what makes her a cowgirl. She’s wild and she’s free because that’s who she was made to be.

This is what I strive to be. A cowgirl who is wild and free and not afraid. Wild like I was when I was five full of wonder and care-free with the feeling I could do anything. How do you show up to who you were made to be when you let fear make the decisions in your life? You can’t move forward if you’re afraid to take the next step. I am a cowgirl and God made me to be a cowgirl. He instilled in me hard work, tenderness, and a free spirit. I am also a work in progress and every day I learn new lessons that lead me further into who God has made me to be. A cowgirl walks boldly. No matter your background, no matter if you’re a third-generation rancher or not, we can all learn from the cowgirl. Let’s show up to who we were made to be and stop letting fear take hold of our hopes and dreams. Let’s take some lessons from the cowgirl and live wild and free.
