Cowgirl Spotlight: Callee Henson
Aspyn and I have shared that we donate 10% of our profit to make a difference in our community. For the past few months, we have chosen to give to the Callee Henson Memorial. Callee lost her life earlier in the year from a tragic car accident. She was 18 and taken way too soon. The reason though that we decided to donate to Callee’s Memorial wasn’t just because she was a cowgirl after our own heart; but because of the life she lived in the 18 short years she was here.
I didn’t know Callee personally but if you scroll through her Facebook page you can tell the impact she made on everyone’s life that she came in contact with. The messages on her Facebook wall are inspiring. The slogan #livelikecallee has moved others to laugh more, love more, and live life to the fullest the way that Callee did.
I asked Callee’s mom to share with us a little about her and this is what she shared with me. She said,
"When I think of Callee I think love, faith, contagious smile, top hand, ultimate cowgirl, generous, fun, and so much more. Over the past month I have read so many stories about Callee from hundreds of people. Those stories have filled our hearts with so much love knowing how many people loved Callee. These stories of Callee really showed us just how loving, giving, helpful and what an amazing friend she really was. Stories that I hope other people read and think, “I want to be more like Callee”
To know Callee was to love Callee. Callee is the kind of person that made you want to do better, to live better, to treat one another better and to Love better. Callees faith was so strong it made you want to believe and trust in God as she did. Callee loved life and she never let a day go by wasted. She made sure she lived life to the fullest and wanted everyone else to do the same. If you ever competed against Callee you know she was there to take home the win but if she didn’t she was just as excited for you as she would be for herself. She always had a huge smile, hug, high-five or that fake handshake she was famous for waiting for whoever did win. We always knew that one day Callee would make it big in roping. She was a natural and had the passion for it that would never fade and no one could take away. In 18 short years that we were blessed with having Callee in our lives, she had touched more lives than most people in their 80’s. Callee made sure to make everyone in her path feel like they were loved and that they always had a friend they could lean on.
Callee was an amazing young woman. She loved life, family, friends, rodeo and most of all God. We will never be able to fill the void in our hearts that appeared the day we lost Callee, but please remember this, Callee would want you to take what she has taught us and run with it. She taught us how to love with all we have, to never judge someone for any reason, to live life like it was your last day and never let any time go to waste, to make sure you let people know they are not alone, to always smile even on the hard days or when you lost at the rodeo, and to have passion for what you love to do and don’t let anyone ever take it away. I hope that we all will remember that and always try our best to Live Like Callee, laugh more, love more and live life to the fullest.”
Callee Henson was the ultimate cowgirl with a heart of gold. This is the reason Aspyn and I chose to give to her memorial. She inspired us. June is the last month we are giving a portion of every purchase to Callee’s memorial before we choose a new inspiring individual or organization. If you would like to give to her memorial you can contact us at doubleawesternboutique1@gmail.com for more information on how to do so.
